week 19: the world of social media

bible verse: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God [Colossians 3:16]

in this day and age ;; social media is a very popular way of communicating and posting different things. wherever it’s on twitter, instagram, or facebook — our virtual life is out there. this devotional will lists some ways and techniques you can use social media for a more positive and uplifting way

1) C O M M U N I  T Y

friends ,, whatever you use twitter or instagram, you’re bound to meet different people from all over. i just think social media is such a creative way to put out your art and words for the world to see. through this ,, people from all over are going to start noticing your work. that’s when the word community comes into play. i just love how you can meet people from all over but let me emphasize this ;; real world interaction is important also. meeting people on social media is no means a substitute for real-life interaction but it can be a tool to venture outside your area and discover people miles away.

2) Y O U R W O R D S

as a follower of Jesus ,, i vowed the day i made my social media to always speak life and speak light into the lives of others. is that how everyone is going to be? nope. continue to use your words to uplift others. use your words to compliment your friends. use your words to be a positive influence in the lives of others. there’s already so much backlash and slander on the platforms of social media ;; why not be the light the world needs? as Christians ,, God calls us to be the “salt of the earth and the light of the world”

3) V O I CE

one thing i want to point across and emphasize deeply :: your following and likes should never reflect upon how credible your voice is. your amount on social media doesn’t mirror how loud your voice is. someone with 100 followers can be as credible or as “loud” as someone with a large following [1,000 or more]. never come to the realization that your writings or your photography have no meaning or purpose because of your social media interaction — the right people will come across your content and will be blessed. if you pray about it, God will be about it.

4) A E S T H E S I C // S I M P L I C I T Y

disclaimer before i elaborate on this :: in no means am i hating or throwing “shade” towards anyone who puts edits or “presets” on their photos. a lot of my pals do it so with that being said let me start my opinion. in this new world of social media ,, we’ve found new innovated ways to enhance and edit our photos. it’s all at our fingertips and it’s easily used and navigated. what if i told you a raw photo without all that editing can gather the same attention? sometimes the simple method is the best method. click the “post” button, watch how raw and authentic your picture looks, and see the attention it grabs.

F R I E N D S. social media is an incredible tool — it can be a method for meeting new people or a way to share your wonderful content that showcases your love for the Lord. USE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIAS FOR GOOD !!! if you retain nothing from this devotional,, let that speak to you. use your instagram and twitter for the better good of humanity.

prayer :: God ,, in this social media world ,, let us use it for the greater good. Let us use our platforms as a tool for creating positivity and speaking truths in others lives. Let JESUS be the muse behind our content.

In your Name, I pray… Amen
